Nashville, TN (August 8, 2016) — On its 51st anniversary of the Voting Rights Act, TNDP Chair Mary Mancini calls on voters to support Democrats in November to ensure full reinstatement:

“Our constitutional right to vote is at the heart of what it means to be an American — but today that right is under threat. This November’s election will be the first in 50 years without the full protections of the Voting Rights Act, the landmark legislation that helped to prevent the disenfranchisement of African Americans. Here in Tennessee, and across the country, Republicans are pushing to not only roll back these protections but also increase voting restrictions that make it more difficult for all minorities, seniors, and students to vote.

This November we must elect more Democrats across the country and here in Tennessee to ensure the full restoration of the Voting Rights Act and make sure every voice is heard.”
