Nashville (November 16, 2016) – Tennessee State Democratic Party chair Mary Mancini is calling on leaders in the Tennessee Republican Party to take action against Steve Bannon:
“Steve Bannon was, until recently, the executive chairman of the far-right Breitbart News Network, which by his own admission is a platform for the “alt-right,” the description used to normalize a group who believe in white-male supremacy over immigrants, women, people of color, and those of the Jewish faith. For years he steered what various hate-watch groups have called a “white ethno-nationalist propaganda mill” and encouraged divisiveness and hate. Steve Bannon has no place in the nation’s highest office nor should he be anywhere near the White House – the symbol for every American – regardless of race or religion – of aspiration, promise, and hope.
President-elect Trump’s tone-def appointment panders to the base instincts in all of us. Sen. Bob Corker, Sen. Lamar Alexander, Gov. Bill Haslam and other leaders of the Tennessee Republican Party must call for the President-elect to immediately remove Steve Bannon. They should understand that you cannot separate the man from his actions and they should immediately demand that President-elect Trump sever all ties with Bannon.”
