Nashville, Tenn. (May 3, 2017) – Mary Mancini, chair of the Tennessee Democratic Party, released the following statement the The Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees (BMWED) protest for health care:

“The Railroad Track Workers’ struggle is indicative of the problems facing many Tennesseans. For decades now working families have faced higher and higher costs of living on every front while their wages stagnate and they take on more and more of the cost of their health care premiums. That highly profitable railroad corporations are once again asking hardworking Tennesseans to make concessions is a ludicrous. Hardworking Tennesseans create profit for their employers. They deserve respect, a fair wage, and good benefits. While Republicans in Washington and Tennessee try to kick 24 million people off of their health care plans, both Congressman Cohen and Cooper have signed onto the Expanded & Improved Medicare for All Act, looking to expand coverage to every American. The Tennessee Democratic Party stands with the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees as they stand up for the compensation they deserve and the right to organize and collectively bargain.”
