Tennessee (November 9, 2017) – A day after Democrats won huge victories in Virginia, New Jersey and all over the country, Jaime Harrison, Associate Chair of the Democratic National Committee told a crowd of supporters in Nashville, “Tennessee will be a battleground state.” He noted that Tennessee has an open Governor and US Senate seat for the first time since 2002.
“Yesterday, Republicans saw their worst nightmare, a unified Democratic Party,” Harrison said to a crowd of volunteers, Tennessee DNC members, local candidates and elected officials.
The event was held in Rep. Harold Love’s district. Love introduced Harrison and said he “embodied the story of perseverance,” noting his time as Chair of the South Carolina Democratic Party and whipping votes for Congressman James Clyburn.
Chair of the Tennessee Democratic Party, Mary Mancini told the packed room, “People are tired of the divisiveness.” Referencing the elections in Virginia, New Jersey and elsewhere, Mancini said, “What we learned last night is that we can compete at every level of government in Tennessee if we stand up for our values and work hard. We need you to knock on doors, make phone calls, and organize in your communities.”
