Feb. 28, 2018 (NASHVILLE, TENN.) — After President Trump admonished fellow Republicans in a meeting today for “fearing” the NRA, Mary Mancini, Chair of the Tennessee Democratic Party, released the following statement:

“Like the overwhelming majority of Tennesseans, we’re glad to see the president agrees that it’s well past time for some in Congress to get over their fear of the NRA and take meaningful steps to end gun violence in our country. Congresswoman Blackburn, who attended the president’s meeting, should prioritize the safety of everyday Tennesseans over her fear of losing campaign contributions from the NRA.”

Background: President Donald Trump held a White House meeting today with a bipartisan group of members of Congress. At that meeting, he said:

“They [NRA] do have great power. I agree with that. They have great power over you people. . . . Some of you people are petrified of the NRA, and you can’t be petrified.”
