Republicans blocked Rep. Nathan Vaugh (D-Kingsport) from becoming a co-sponsor to SJR127 in an overt sign that they have been playing politics with an issue they say is critical.
Rep. Vaughn acknowledged how he was not allowed to become a co-sponsor of SJR127 despite his record of pro-life voting throughout his career. Rep. Vaughn is a loyal supporter of pro-life issues regardless of the politics behind it. Obviously, the same is not true for Rep. Dolores Gresham (R-Somerville), the bill sponsor, whose attempt to play partisan politics should be condemned.
In 2006, a Tennessee Right to Life press release praised Gresham saying she “shares a proven commitment to pro-life issues.” Her stunt to prohibit Vaugn’s co-sponsorship proves that she neither shares nor commits to pro-life issues.
Rep. Vaughn was kind enough not to name the bill sponsor.
