Local attorney and longtime Democratic activist Dave Garrison has been named treasurer of the Tennessee Democratic Party.

Garrison served as an assistant policy advisor on the Gore-Lieberman presidential campaign in 2000 and as an alternate at-large Barack Obama delegate to the 2008 Democratic National Convention. He also served as a voter-protection legal advisor for the Tennessee Democratic Party during the 2006 and 2008 election cycles. He currently practices law at Barrett, Johnston and Parsley.

“Dave is a well respected attorney and loyal Democrat who will help our organization immensely,” Forrester said. “He has the full support of the governor and the congressional delegation, as well as that of the state House and Senate caucuses.

“He understands what it takes to win elections, and to that extent he will be a big boost to our fundraising efforts. We are fortunate to have someone with Dave’s experience and abilities as our treasurer.”

Congressmen Bart Gordon of Murfreesboro and Lincoln Davis of Pall Mall echoed Forrester’s sentiments.

Gordon said: “Dave is an excellent attorney who understands the political landscape in our state. He will be a great asset to the state party.”

Davis said: “Mr. Garrison has the attributes the party needs in a treasurer and an advisor. I’m glad he accepted the job and all the hard work that goes along with it.”
