Former State Representative and Senator Bill Richardson Jr. passed away on Monday at the age of 80.
Richardson, a Democrat, was elected to the House by a write-in vote in 1974 after his father, state Rep. W. Allen Richardson Sr., died unexpectedly before the general election. He served District 64 in the House through 1982, when he won the 23rd District seat in the Senate. He held that seat for two terms before retiring in 1990, according to information provided by Oakes & Nichols, which is handling funeral arrangements.
On the Senate floor this morning, Sen. Roy Herron and others eulogized their former colleague and remembered him as a good, moral man who also had a great sense of humor.
