Koch Backed Group Attacking Karl Dean
Americans for Prosperity, a group bankrolled and started by the Koch brothers, is coming into Nashville to launch an attack against Mayor Karl Dean for proposing a property tax increase to pay for improvements to schools and city infrastructure. They’ve already released a statement urging people to call or write the council and Mayor Dean in opposition to the increases, and if their actions in other states are any indication, they may escalate with outside money to run a negative faux-grassroots campaign against the proposal.
These groups, with their almost limitless resources and complete lack of ethics, pose a significant threat to our democracy. Their anarchistic viewpoints towards government would see the elimination of public schools and nearly all services that our society relies on, all to gain more power and money for their benefactors. Their tentacles are now reaching into all levels of government, from lies and attacks against President Obama, now to proposed policies on the city level.
We can’t stop these groups from promoting their views, but we can shine a light on who they are and let people know who is sending them false and misleading information.
