This morning we held our second delegate breakfast of the convention. We had a great lineup of speakers, including TNDP Vice-Chair Elisa Parker, Mike McWherter, Tennessee native and health care reform expert Nancy-Ann DeParle, as well as Tennessee delegate to the convention, Ashley Judd.

DeParle is a great example of a Tennessean who has had a tremendous and positive impact on the lives of average Americans. A native of Rockwood, Tenn., Nancy-Ann has been in public service most of her adult life. She served in the administration of Governor Ned McWherter, where she was the youngest ever Medicaid director. Later, she would work with President Bill Clinton.

In 2009, DeParle accepted the call from President Obama to help usher in the historic health care reform package passed in 2010. At the breakfast, DeParle spoke about the competing visions between Mitt Romney and President Obama, and why it’s so important, especially for those whose lives depend on the reforms to the health care system, that the President be re-elected.

After Nancy-Ann spoke, the delegates were delighted to hear from our star delegate, Ashley Judd. An actress and strong supporter of President Obama, Judd spoke of the importance of sharing personal stories about how the President’s leadership has improved and positively impacted their lives. It is through these personal and emotional connections that people can get past the political spin and focus on what really matters in this election.

Tonight, the Delegation is excited to hear from a great lineup of speakers, including San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro and First Lady Michelle Obama, among many others.
