The Tea Party Agenda of Robert Duvall

Too extreme for Nashville

Who is the Robert Duvall? Well, for one, he’s not the famous actor by the same name…but he has taken up an acting role as he’s traveled District 59, that of a moderate. The truth is, Duvall, a member of the Nashville Metro Council running for State House, might possibly be one of the most extreme right-wing candidates to ever run in Davidson County.

Joey Garrison, a reporter for the Tennessean who has covered the council extensively, said that Duvall is “easily the council’s most conservative member”. And Duvall’s own positions show why that is the case.

In a questionnaire posted on Vote Smart, Duvall agrees with Todd Akin that it should be a crime for women to seek abortion in all cases, including cases of rape, incest, or when the life of the mother was in danger. Some other points of interest that voters should know about:

  • Duvall wants to drain millions of dollars from public schools to subsidize private school for wealthy Tennesseans.
  • He thinks that Wall Street should have control over the Social Security trust fund.
  • Thinks laws protecting Black and Latino Americans from discrimination should be repealed.
  • And thinks people should be allowed to carry guns into our children’s parks.

The record is clear: a vote for Duvall is a vote for more of the Tea Party extremism that has made Tennessee the punchline in so many jokes in the national media. Voters who want someone who represents the values of Nashville and Tennessee have one choice, and that is to re-elect Rep. Sherry Jones.
