This week Tennessee Republicans showed there is no level of hypocrisy and dishonesty that is off limits.

Scott DesJarlais’ Really Bad Week

Scott DesJarlais, who has been dodging debates like Mitt Romney dodges facts, was exposed in the Huffington Post for a level of blatant dishonesty and hypocrisy that might even make Karl Rove twinge. The report was based on a transcript of a phone conversation — that DesJarlais himself recorded — with a former patient whom he had slept with. In the call, DesJarlais repeatedly pressured one of his former mistresses to quickly get an abortion — even offering to travel out of state to do so — in order to ‘get on with his life’. The reports show a man with a track record of dishonesty, hypocrisy, and abusing his power — qualities that make him unfit for office. Read the rest here »»

Did the TNGOP Chairman just call on his own candidate to drop out?

In a textbook example of shoot first, aim later…TNGOP Chairman Chris Devaney called on his own candidate to quit her campaign for office. You see, in his zeal to attack a Democratic candidate for State House over tax liens, he inadvertently called into question Republican house candidate Lauri Day’s fitness for office because she too has a backlog of unpaid taxes. The TNGOP response to this hypocrisy? Well, it’s different because…umm, well, you see, umm, she’s not a Democrat. Get the full details here »»

You’d think with all that money they could hire a researcher?

Speaking of the Tennessee Republican Party, they’ve been dropping an avalanche of negative mail against Democrats across the state. They fit a pretty generic and tired format of attacking Democrats for being “best friends” with President Obama, trying to paint them as big tax and spenders, and smear them as advocates for “illegal immigration”. Their evidence? Well, in the case of Jim Hackworth, they claimed he voted for a “job-killing bill” to “raise taxes on small businesses.” The problem with this charge? The vote they cited was taken in May of 2002, 6 months before Hackworth was elected to the legislature! Sort of gives new meaning to the term “ghost voting.” Click here to read more »»

How ‘bout that Joe?

Did you watch the debate last night? If you did, you saw what happens when you’ve got a man who has spent his life fighting for the middle class, going up against a man who has spent his entire life sculpting his pecks and finding new ways to destroy Medicare and bankrupt the middle class. Vice President Biden dispensed with formality and did what Democrats do the best — told the truth. He wouldn’t let Ryan get away with lies and mischaracterizations, resulting in a big win for Democrats and the Obama-Biden ticket.Tell us how you though Joe did on the TNDP Facebook page »»

We have a winner!

Thanks to all who participated in the contest to have dinner with Ashley Judd this Saturday. About 150 people entered the contest, but there could be only one. After a random drawing, the winner is Margaret “Kimi” Abernathy. Kimi is an education consultant in Bell Buckle, Tenn. and her husband is on active duty in the U.S. military, stationed in Virginia. We had a chance to speak with Kimi last night and it turns out that she is a distant, very distant, relative of Ashley Judd! She’s excited about dinner tomorrow, and we couldn’t be happier for her!
