Seven Days Later: Republican Party Still Supporting Unethical Doctor Desjarlais — Who Had Sex with a Patient
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – In response to the Tennessee Republican Party’s sudden interest in “basic ethics,” Tennessee Democratic Party Chairman Chip Forrester released the following statement condemning the Republican establishment for staying dead silent on the unethical and morally repugnant behavior of Congressman Scott Desjarlais:
“Seven days have passed since Dr. Desjarlais admitted he had a sexual relationship with a patient — a crystal clear violation of his professional code of ethics. Yet the Tennessee Republican Party and Republican leaders in this state refuse to address this appalling doctor’s contemptible behavior and flagrant hypocrisy.
“Where is the accountability? Where is the disapproval of this man’s unethical misconduct? It’s obvious the Republican Party approves of Scott Desjarlais disgraceful behavior and there will be no consequences for any of their disgraceful, law-breaking politicians.
“So Chairman Devaney, we can talk about ‘basic ethics’ after you and your party bosses grow a basic backbone and hold Scott Desjarlais accountable for having carried on a wildly unethical relationship with a patient and betraying voters’ trust.”
