How to make Scott DesJarlais Work
The Tennessee Democratic Party has released a web ad showing the hypocrisy of Rep. Scott DesJarlais and his questionable activity in favor of a major campaign contributor.
While Scott DesJarlais attacks the Department of Energy and government spending in public, when the cameras are off, DesJarlais is cashing big checks from Washington Special Interests and writing letters requesting the same spending he condemned.
In March of 2011, the USEC PAC wrote a $1,000 check to Scott DesJarlais’ campaign account. Two months later, Rep. DesJarlais wrote a letter to the US Department of Energy requesting they expedite the loan guarantee process for USEC. Then on October 17th, DesJarlais attacked the White House for “rushing through” the same type of loan guarantees that he was asking the Department of Energy to expedite.
Despite coming out against fast-tracking of loan guarantees, on November 4th, just 18 days after attacking the White House for “rushing through” loan guarantees, he sent a second letter to the DOE, again requesting they fast-track loans for USEC, who just happened to write his campaign another $1,000 check just five days before this second letter.
This just goes to show that DesJarlais’ conservative rhetoric is just that…rhetoric. When push comes to shove, DesJarlais is only against government unless the people who receive the benefits of that spending are giving him a piece of the action.
