Organizing and Outreach Director


The Tennessee Democratic Party is seeking an Organizing and Outreach Director who will oversee all grassroots outreach, operations and mobilization for the state party. The Director is responsible for working with TNDP external (outside the TNDP structure) allied resistance and issue groups as well as community, faith-based, civil rights, labor, progressive and other allied or affiliated organizations. The Director will also build and maintain relationships with local media as well as non-traditionally allied groups, clubs, and organizations, i.e. Chambers, Rotaries, etc. On their own, and through the TNDP Field Organizer Program, the Director will be responsible for maintaining and developing strong relationships and strong networks while advancing organizing principles necessary to win elections for Democrats

Responsibilities include:

  • Building and managing relationships and partnerships with allied resistance and issue groups as well as community, faith-based, civil rights, labor, progressive and other allied or affiliated organizations.
  • Building and managing relationships with clubs, groups and organizations that are not traditionally allied with the Democratic Party, i.e. Chambers, Rotaries, etc.
  • Implementing a plan to build TNDP relationships with local media.
  • Serving as the main point of contact and ensuring good communication between TNDP and allied resistance and issue groups as well as community, faith-based, civil rights, labor, progressive and other allied or affiliated organizations and facilitate.
  • Designing and implementing a plan to ensure regular communication and identifying and/or organizing opportunities for networking between TNDP officials and Democratic elected officials and allied resistance and issue groups, community, faith-based, civil rights, labor, progressive and other allied or affiliated organizations.
  • Working with the Political Department, develop grassroots trainings and the materials necessary to make them successful, i.e. resulting in well-run grassroots organizations and campaigns.
  • Representing the TNDP at external events and meetings.
  • Managing TNDP Field Organizer Program.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in a grassroots, field or operations position inside a political campaign, public sector, non-profit, private industry and/or trade association.
  • Ability to juggle multiple roles and responsibilities.
  • Ability to build relationships based on trust and resource sharing.
  • Must have a car, car insurance, and driver’s license and enjoy driving and traveling in Tennessee
  • Track record of bringing creative solutions to the job.
  • At least 2 cycles of political outreach experience is preferred, though other outreach experience will be considered.
  • Exemplary time management, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Detail-oriented and able to prioritize and manage multiple projects and staff.
  • Experience with VAN, NGP, and other campaign databases.
  • Experience in and knowledge of the political landscape and key people/organizations in Tennessee.

Salary is commensurate with experience.

Field Organizers

The Tennessee Democratic Party is hiring three grassroots Field Organizers, one in each grand division, to implement our statewide grassroots organizing initiative. Between now and 2018, our field program will be crucial for building our volunteer base, recruiting and training candidates, and working to empower local communities at the precinct level in order to deliver Democratic victories. We are looking for passionate hardworking individuals who are committed to helping elect Tennessee Democrats.

Grassroots Organizers will report directly to the TNDP Organizing & Outreach Director. Salary is commensurate with experience. This is a full-time position.

Duties and Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

  • Work directly with county parties to implement precinct-based organizing programs.
  • Work directly with other Democratic Party organizations and clubs as well as local allied resistance and issue groups and community, faith-based, civil rights, labor, progressive and other allied or affiliated organizations to recruit, develop and train volunteer teams and leaders;
  • Support county chairs, volunteers, and interns to develop organizing skills and build capacity;
  • Attend local events to recruit volunteers, spread our message, & build community relationships;
  • Execute voter contact efforts, such as phone banks and canvasses;
  • Mobilize supporters and amplify TNDP message by creating online communities through social media;
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with local Democratic partners, allied organizations, and resistance groups.

Required Skills, Abilities, and Experience:

  • Enthusiasm for Democratic politics;
  • At least once cycle of experience as a field organizer (applicants with rural organizing experience are encouraged to apply);
  • Extensive relationship-building and volunteer management experience;
  • Working knowledge of and experience with VAN (desired, but not required);
  • Strong communications and organizational skills, ability to work independently, and manage multiple tasks;
  • Experience organizing and executing successful, engaging trainings;
  • Deadline and results-driven leader;
  • Ability to work effectively with regional and local leaders;
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.

Finance Director

The Tennessee Democratic Party (TNDP) is seeking a Finance Director. The Finance Director will report to the Chair and the Executive Director and direct all aspects of the fundraising program. This position is full-time and based in Nashville, TN.

Responsibilities Include:

  • • Develop, implement and direct a multipronged long-term fundraising plan for the TNDP that results in consistent revenue streams of all sizes.
    • Fully prepare and support Chair during call time.
    • Plan, coordinate and execute three large-scale fundraising events statewide as well as additional local and regional small-to-medium sized events throughout the year.
    • Research current and prospective donors and manage and maintain database of donor records with utmost efficiency and attention to detail. Share relevant data for voter file with Data Director when appropriate.
    • Engage staff, TNDP Executive Committee, and other Department Directors to create a culture of fundraising and creatively raise the funds necessary to sustain our work.
    • Develop and manage robust intern and volunteer fundraising program and encourage personal and skills development within the program.
    • Create and manage process for prompt donor follow up and acknowledgement.
    • Work with Compliance Officer to monitor compliance and appropriately solicit, track, and report campaign finance contributions and expenditures.
    • Work with Communications Director to explore, implement and maximize online contributions using the most cutting-edge and productive tools available.
    • Administer the TNDP sustaining donor programs (Finance Council) and recurring donor programs.
    • Through consistent personal call time build and nurture relationships with TNDP constituent groups and stakeholders, including but not limited to party leaders and elected officials (both past and present), individual contributors (both past and present), labor organizations, issue advocacy groups, individual businesses and business groups, and candidate campaigns.
    • Prepare quarterly reports for stakeholders.

Applicable Qualifications:

  • • Exceptional interpersonal, relationship-building and communication skills.
    • Knowledge of NGP software.
    • Exceptional project and time management skills. Can efficiently strategize, plan, organize, measure progress and adjust resources as needed during execution of a plan or project.
    • Exceptional understanding of low, medium and high-dollar fundraising as well as online fundraising.
    • Thinks creatively and acts assuredly.
    • At least 2 years of relevant experience. Knowledge of both state and federal election law is helpful.

Data Administrator


To manage the voter file, provide customer service, produce reports, and develop new data related strategies in order to advance the goals of the party.

Applicant requirements:

  • A positive, customer-service oriented personality and the ability to respond to issues promptly
  • Demonstrated data analysis and writing skills.
  • Ability to plan and manage time sensitive projects with competing needs.
  • Knowledge of Excel including formulas, functions, and pivot tables.
  • Knowledge of Access (or other SQL database) including creating queries and manipulating large data sets preferred.
  • Familiarity with GIS preferred.
  • Experience standardizing data from multiple sources to produce reports.
  • Capacity and desire to work long hours in a campaign setting.

Data Administrator will:

  • Assist the State Party Staff with data needs, especially pulling lists quickly and correctly.
  • Be the key person in the state responsible to the State Party Chair and Executive Director for ensuring that Democrats are using technology effectively and taking responsibility for solving problems as necessary.
  • Keep the State Party Executive Director apprised of all relevant technology issues in the state.
  • Work directly to elect candidates to office, taking care of all data needs the campaigns may have.
  • Work directly with campaign managers including potential Coordinated Campaign leadership to provide technical perspective at the strategic and tactical levels.
  • Provide prompt customer service to party leaders, candidates, and their staff by providing access to the Voter File, training on its use, and troubleshooting any issues that arise
  • Use political sense to give advice to clients and suggest queries or modifications to data requests where appropriate.
  • Ensure that all users are able to use the online voter file effectively.
  • Manage all technology-related contracts for the State Party in a cost-effective manner.
