Trump administration “guidance” obliterates key provision of Affordable Care Act
October 23, 2018 (NASHVILLE, Tenn.) — Tennessee Democratic Party Chair Mary Mancini released the following statement today in response to the Trump administration announcing new guidance on waivers that could allow states to expand health insurance plan offerings that don’t include pre-existing condition protections.
“Every day it becomes more clear that Republicans in Washington have no intention of protecting the 1.27 million adults in Tennessee who have a pre-existing condition. For years, Marsha Blackburn and Mitch McConnell did nothing to work with Democrats to improve the Affordable Care Act — instead they chose to waste time voting to repeal the law over and over and over again without working with Democrats to fix any issues. Now, with Trump’s help, they want to sabotage one of the most vital and important provisions of the ACA: the protection for those with pre-existing conditions. This is yet another attempt by the GOP to take away healthcare from hardworking Tennesseans using any mechanism possible.
“All Tennesseans deserve access to affordable healthcare regardless of whether they have a preexisting condition. The best way and strongest way to stand up to these attacks is to vote for representatives who will fight to save and improve the healthcare law while working together to address the issues that need to be fixed. Early Voting is happening now through Nov. 1 and Election Day is November 6.”
