PARTY CHAIR
Hendrell Remus
On Jan. 16, 2021, Hendrell Remus became the first Black person elected as Democratic State Party Chair in Tennessee history. Prior to taking the helm of the Party, Chair Remus served as an Ex-officio member of the Tennessee Democratic Party’s State Executive Committee.
With a commitment to Democratic values, Remus has worked on a number of TN campaigns. From serving as a strategic advisor to mayoral and state house candidates to assisting local school board, city council and county commission races, he has been an asset to Democratic candidates and causes. Often driven by the same volunteerism that led him into politics during the 2008 campaign of Barack Obama.
With a professional background in business management and public safety, Hendrell Remus worked as an emergency manager and terrorism liaison officer after a career in the private sector as a regional operations manager for a Fortune 500 company.
Chair Remus is focused on building a stronger Tennessee Democratic party infrastructure and beginning the hard work to break the republican supermajority by electing more Democrats. He understands the importance of building a strong bench of Democratic candidates and investing in local campaigns. He has worked to rebuild the Tennessee Democratic Party’s brand and raise its national profile.
The Excelsior College graduate currently resides in his hometown of Memphis, TN with his wife Marlene and their two children.
What is the TNDP Executive Committee?
There are two Democratic representatives from each State Senate district elected during the Gubernatorial State Primary every four years. We welcome all bona fide Democrats to represent your community by running to sit on TNDP’s Executive Committee!
