Bill Lee names school voucher proponent to senior staff

Nov. 27, 2018 (NASHVILLE, Tenn.) — After Bill Lee named the former director of pro-school voucher group American Federation for Children Tony Niknejad as his policy director, Tennessee Democratic Party Chair Mary Mancini released the following statement:

“The Betsy DeVos-affiliated American Federation for Children advocates for funding to be siphoned away from public schools and distributed to private schools,” Mancini said. “That Governor-elect Lee named a policy director who was most recently employed as a school voucher advocate illustrates the direction in which his administration plans to take our education system. This unfair use of our tax dollars must not become policy in Tennessee. All students — no matter who they are, what they look like, or where they live — deserve access to fully funded, fully resourced public schools.”
