TNDP INTERNS RELEASED THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO THE FIRST 2020 PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE.
“We must understand the barrage of verbal attacks made by President Donald Trump in the first presidential debate is nothing new. The continuous interruptions made by Trump represent the chaotic nature of the past four years. Furthermore, his inability to coherently communicate policy demonstrates his lack of a comprehensive plan for the future. Moderator, Chris Wallace, challenged both opponents on the nation’s most pressing issues and as Trump simply spewed hate and false claims through aggression and despotism, Joe Biden successfully directed attention back to the American people. His presidential demeanor demonstrated his willingness to heal and lead our people as a unified nation.
While Trump has yet to come up with a plan to replace the Affordable Care Act, stumbled over his words, lied about his taxes, and claimed that mail in voting is a ploy by Democrats to take the election, the most stomach-turning part of the night was watching him unable to denounce white supremacy. In fact, Biden gives him the chance stating, “Do it. Say it.” and Trump refuses, instead stating “Proud Boys [to] stand back, and stand by.” Trump proved, yet again, he is a bully in this debate. We need to show up in November and take back our nation. We need a president who looks the American people in the eye and speaks to them. We need Biden.”- Tennessee Democratic Party Class of 2020
