September 16, 2019 (NASHVILLE, Tenn) — Tennessee Democratic Party Chair Mary Mancini released the following statement in support of striking UAW members in Spring Hill:

“This strike is not a Democrat or Republican issue, it’s an issue about the disappearing middle class and the need to restore the partner relationship between management and workers. It’s about stagnation and understanding that between 1973 and 2016, productivity in the United States grew six times faster than wages. It’s about the ability for those who work hard every day to have a 40 hour work week, own a home, pay their bills, and take time-off with their family.

“The automotive industry is a valuable part of the American fabric. But equally of value is ensuring that the workers who work there are paid well and that people who work hard can afford their mortgage or rent, medicine, and a safe and dignified retirement.

“The GM workers in Spring Hill are fighting for their right to work a dignified 40 hour work week that allows them to build a strong foundation for their families and feel good about their future — and Tennessee Democrats will stand with them every step of the way.”
