The Tennessee Democratic Party and Tennessee Democratic Party Veterans and Military Families Caucus Release Joint Statement on Veterans Day in 2020
“Today we salute the real heroes who served in our Armed Forces”

November  7, 2020 (NASHVILLE, Tenn.) — Tennessee Democratic Party chair, Mary Mancini, and Tennessee Democratic Party Veterans and Military Families Caucus chair, Tom Keefe, released the following joint statement to honor the more than 500,000 veterans who call Tennessee home:

“Today is the day we set-aside to honor the brave men and women who protected our democracy both here and abroad. Every year it’s important to recognize their sacrifice, but today’s post-election acknowledgement of Veterans Day 2020 is notably more significant. As we go through a difficult time in our nation’s history, the Tennessee Democratic Party and its Veterans and Military Families Caucus salute the heroes who served in our Armed Forces and fought so hard to protect the most sacred pillar of our democracy – the right to vote in free and fair elections.

Whether serving in combat or stationed overseas or here at home, our veterans have kept us safe and secure while ensuring that our government “of the people, by the people, and for the people” did not perish. They deserve our words of thanks and our deeds of gratitude and we must make certain, through good governance and smart policy, that the 500,000 veterans who call Tennessee their home have a life-time of quality healthcare, meaningful and sustainable employment, affordable housing, and a secure and dignified retirement.

We are honored to work side by side with the many brave servicemen and women in the Tennessee Democratic Party and our Veterans and Military Families Caucus. And, as this election year reminds us, we had the opportunity to cast our vote and have it counted because of our veterans, those who are still here as well as those who paid the ultimate price to safeguard our democracy.”
