NASHVILLE — Yesterday, The US Senate began the process to end the nation’s longest government shutdown.
“For seven weeks, Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress have held the government hostage and Tennessee families are paying the price. From children and veterans going hungry to families watching their health care premiums double or even triple, Tennesseans are feeling the full weight of this crisis created by Trump and the Republicans who refuse to lead. Tax breaks for billionaires, while Tenenssee kids, seniors, and veterans went hungry. It’s clear whose side they’re on and it’s not Tennessee families.
“Tennessee Democrats don’t cave, and we reject any “leaders” who would side with billionaires over our families, friends and neighbors. When Republicans double down, Tennessee Democrats triple down. We fight. Because working families deserve leaders who keep their word and stand up for them when things get tough. As this fight continues, Tennessee Democrats are committed to lifting up leaders who are committed to making our communities more affordable and opportunity more accessible. Our vision for this state hasn’t changed and our resolve has never been stronger: every family should be able to afford health care, working families should be able to get ahead, and your word means something,” said Rachel Campbell, Chair of the Tennessee Democratic Party.
