Position: Finance Director
Start Date: April 2022

Reports To: Executive Director
Position Summary: The Finance Director will be a core role at the TNDP for 2022 and beyond. The Finance Director will manage the Finance Department to raise the money that the TNDP needs to secure victory in upcoming elections and fight back against the GOP majority. The Finance Director will lead the Finance Department to building lasting donor relationships and networks, see continual growth, and secure long term financial stability. The Finance Director will think ahead to future election years and how to grow the TNDP.
The 2022 Tennessee Coordinated Campaign, Take Back Tennessee, is the inaugural year of the path to turn Tennessee blue. Joining Take Back Tennessee will give staffers the chance to get in on the ground level of making history in Tennessee as well as run an innovative program that is equal parts experimental and strategic. The potential for 2022 includes registering over 200,000 new voters in Tennessee, flipping several seats across the state, pushing more districts into the flippable zone for 2024, and growing our Democratic momentum. This position will require occasional travel and is an in-person position based out of the TNDP’s Nashville, TN headquarters. Irregular hours including nights and weekends as well as increasing hours are an expectation of the job.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Developing strategic fundraising plan for TNDP and bought-in coordinated candidates
Overseeing donor research, expanding donor networks, and maintaining donor database
Travel in and out of state to fundraise for the TNDP
Working with Operations Director and consultants to ensure compliance with state campaign finance laws
Working with staff, consultants, and vendors on an ambitious fundraising strategy implementing an annual fundraising calendar, including direct mail, email, events, and other targeted fundraising campaigns
Developing and conducting fundraising training for staff, candidates, and county parties
Raise funds through personal call time and sometimes assisting with call time management
Work with the Executive Director to ensure cash flow and budget projections are met
Work with the Chair, Executive Director, and compliance consultant to track income, expenses, and adjust goals, as needed
Working with and cultivating relationships with large donors
Planning, scheduling, and managing small-and large-scale fundraising events ranging from small social gatherings to large events with 500+ attendees
Recruiting, training, and supervising entry- and mid-level finance staff to assist with and strategy on data entry, call time, donor research, events, and other finance-related tasks
Other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of state party finance laws and regulations
Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
Ability to travel by airplane
Fluency in VAN, Google Suite; other field tools a plus
Experience with state party and/or coordinated campaign fundraising
Required Qualifications:
5+ years experience in campaign, advocacy, non-profit finance
3+ years experience in mid to senior-level campaign fundraising role
2+ years experience managing staff
Fundraising event planning and management experience
Detailed knowledge of NGP and ActBlue
Detailed knowledge of campaign finance laws and regulations
Proven track record of raising funds from diverse sources, including prospecting new donors through research, digital fundraising, mail, and cold calls
Ability to identify and cultivate new and existing relationships with donors, prospective donors, partner organizations, candidates, electeds, and key stakeholders
Track record of fundraising planning and implementation, targeting contributors, and follow-through with pledges and donors
Comfortable with technology and learning new tech systems

Position: Coordinated Organizing Director

Position Summary: The Political and Organizing Director will lead the largest and most goal-driven department within the TNDP’s 2022 coordinated campaign. This combined department director role will oversee deputy political and organizing directors to manage both branches of voter and stakeholder mobilization. Additionally, the Political and Organizing Director will manage directors focused on county party growth and support and the management of our coordinated campaign candidate support structure. Finally, this role has the potential to extend beyond 2022 and become a core role at the TNDP for years to come.

Develop and manage relationships with key stakeholders (elected officials, candidates, county party chairs, donors, allied groups, other partners, etc.)
Recruit and support candidates through the coordinated campaign buy-in process and beyond
Collaborate across teams to plan and execute political goals for the TNDP, including those around county parties, candidates, voter contact/organizing, etc.
Manage political and organizing department to include Deputy Political Directors, Deputy Organizing Director, State Campaigns Director, and Party Affairs Director
Assist with the hiring, training and development of political, campaign, and organizing staff across the state
Communicate and contextualize programmatic updates/priorities to the team and share salient programmatic feedback and recommendations
Work with the Data team to ensure data integrity and run a metrics based field program
Goals include: increased Democratic voter turnout, increase number of people enrolled in vote-by-mail, increased number of Democratic voters registered
Maintain a cohesive field effort among the counties for non-election year activities

Preferred Qualifications:
Have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
Knowledge and fluency in p2p platforms, social media platforms and relational organizing tools in addition to fluency in best practices within those platforms
Experience with distributed organizing programs
Advanced Votebuilder, excel, and digital tool skills

3+ more years of experience managing and coaching staff to meet goals as well as a proven track record of effective recruitment, management and development of a diverse staff

The Deputy Organizing Director will also work closely with the Party Affairs Director to support the growth and success of county parties and the State Campaigns Director to support the growth and success of coordinated candidate campaigns.

Our organizers will also support county parties in recruitment and voter contact efforts of their own. Additionally, our organizers will have significant focus on registering new voters throughout 2022. Organizers will get the unique opportunity to work closely with TNDP staff as well as local candidates.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Be the lead in your turf for voter registration efforts, engaging communities around local issues and elections, and other outreach activities as directed
Recruit and train volunteers who are vital to the success of the TNDP
Coordinate local and county events (virtually and in-person) to educate and mobilize voters

Position Summary: The Statewide Call Time Director will go beyond a traditional call time role and create and implement call time strategy for TNDP senior leadership as well as TNDP’s 2022 coordinated campaign candidates. This is not a role that exclusively manages call time; instead the Statewide Call Time Director will set standards for call time best practices and call time goals. The Statewide Call Time Director will support Regional Fundraising Managers by rolling down call time strategy to meet call time fundraising goals across the state.

Position Summary: The Deputy Data Director will support the Data Director in managing the TNDP’s 2022 coordinated campaign data team. The Deputy Data Director will help create persuasion and mobilization universes, track progress across the state, and analyze performance data. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Work closely with the DNC and Secretary of State’s office to ensure timely and accurate updates of the voter file, absentee data, and polling locations
Administer the TNDP’s VAN committees, including user permissions, accounts, shared data sets, and other settings
Develop and deliver training and best practices, particularly around VAN and other voter contact tools
Provide support to committee admins and users by setting up troubleshooting standards and systems of communication
Oversee contracts, payments, and access for VAN
Create voter contact and volunteer recruitment universes
Produce analysis of voter contact results, program health, early vote and absentee turnout, voter registration, and other data relevant to campaigns and present these effectively to leadership
Build automated workflows to streamline data tasks
Help the TNDP make smart, efficient choices about their technology and choice of vendors

Create targeted volunteer and voter contact universes, tailored for specific contact modes

Maintain data integrity within VoteBuilder via regular Voter File updates, enforcing protocol for database organization, and ongoing data hygiene practices;

Standardize and effectively communicate data from multiple sources to produce complex reports
Work directly to elect candidates to office, taking care of all data needs partner campaigns may have

Write SQL to analyze data and build reports or dashboards
Write Python-based data pipelines
Learning DVC platforms and providing advice on best practices

Position: Email and SMS Manager

Reports To: Digital Director
Position Summary: The Email and SMS Manager will lead and craft all email and SMS strategy and messaging for the TNDP’s 2022 coordinated campaign. The Email and SMS Manager will also support Regional Digital Managers and coordinated candidates by creating templates for graphics, email, sms, and more to be tailored to the needs of individual districts. This position will require some graphic design and immaculate writing skills and attention to detail.
The 2022 Tennessee Coordinated Campaign, Take Back Tennessee, is the inaugural year of the path to turn Tennessee blue. Joining Take Back Tennessee will give staffers the chance to get in on the ground level of making history in Tennessee as well as run an innovative program that is equal parts experimental and strategic. The potential for 2022 includes registering over 200,000 new voters in Tennessee, flipping several seats across the state, pushing more districts into the flippable zone for 2024, and growing our Democratic momentum. This position will require occasional travel and is an in-person position based out of the TNDP’s Nashville, TN headquarters. Irregular hours including nights and weekends as well as increasing hours are an expectation of the job.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Write direct response copy to reach supporters through email and SMS
Innovate how to best reach and mobilize our grassroots supporters online and tell a story about the work of the TNDP that is coherent and integrated across all channels
Create overall strategy and planning for email and SMS fundraising and mobilization campaigns, including execution of complex segmentation and optimization programs, while ensuring the highest standard of quality
Assist in the management of complex email and SMS lists
Get creative and propose ideas for testing and optimization
Closely monitor various media sources for current messaging and rapid response opportunities
Design and execute email strategy including content gathering, building of emails, testing, routing for approval, scheduling, audience segmentation, A/B testing and analytics
Design graphics and produce short video clips as needed
Work with the Finance Director and vendors to administer the party’s digital fundraising program, including email and text programs
Work with coordinated candidates and Regional Digital Managers to develop email and SMS plans and coordinate with them to make sure that their campaign message aligns with the party’s plan
Creating and leading trainings for staff, candidates, and county parties to improve email and SMS engagement
Monitoring impact of digital work by producing digestible reports of online metrics and trends on an ongoing basis
Work with and train staff, candidates, and county parties to make sure they’re using digital communications tools effectively to amplify their message properly and using industry best practices
Maintain a working knowledge of best practices for using online communications tools in a political environment
Identify, investigate, and implement new technologies as they become available

Preferred Qualifications:
Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
Proficient in using CMSs. (WordPress, Cloudflare, HiFi, Drupal, etc.)
Experience with video editing for web ideally on Final Cut, Adobe Premiere, iMovie, or similar software
Experience in graphic design, social media management, and strategic communications
Knowledge and comfort with Google Suite, WordPress, video editing software, Photoshop or other graphic systems;
Basic videography and photography skills
Required Qualifications:
2+ years of political campaign/organizing/digital experience
1+ years working with an email, SMS, or direct marketing program for an electoral campaign, advocacy organization, or non-profit organization
Detailed knowledge of NGP/VAN
Working knowledge of HTML and CSS
Working knowledge of website CMS, CRM, or mass email systems (e.g. Action Network, ActionKit, EveryAction, Mobile Commons)
Experience with email and digital organizing, communications, and online fundraising
Ability to create persuasive visual communications for use in online content, visual presentations, written reports, etc
Proficient in Adobe Suite and Canva
Experience sending fundraising emails, and managing a successful email program for a candidate, or political organization
Understanding of email marketing, content development and analytics
Experience creating well-designed graphics, SMS, and email templates
Working closely with the Communications Department to track breaking news that can be amplified online
Managing an email and social media content calendar
Strong understanding of email and SMS fundraising best practices
Excellent writing, reviewing, and proofreading skills
Comfortable with technology and learning new tech systems
Strong computer skills
