NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Democratic Party released the following statement in response to the special election results in Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District:
“We are incredibly proud of our Democratic nominee Aftyn Behn, our volunteers, county parties, and supporters across Tennessee who built a people-powered campaign focused on affordability and real solutions for working families.
Let’s not forget: Republicans rigged these Congressional Districts and then were so scared of their dangerous economic, extremist agenda that they had to spend $4 million plus to silence the voices of working Tennesseans. They know they can’t win on the facts or their abysmal record. Aftyn defied expectations and overperformed in a way that reaffirmed: when we organize everywhere, we can compete anywhere.
Tennessee deserves leaders who will feed kids, fix roads, fund hospitals, and make life more affordable and that fight continues tomorrow. The momentum we built in this special election will continue, powering local and statewide races across Tennessee for 2026 and beyond. Tennessee took its place on the national stage and we sent a message loud and clear: Don’t count out the South, because Tennessee has something to say,” said Rachel Campbell, Chair of the Tennessee Democratic Party.
