NASHVILLE — Today, the U.S. House will vote on extending ACA enhanced premium tax credits for three years, which Republicans let expire on December 31. Because Republicans refused to extend these credits, nearly 600,000 Tennesseans are seeing their health care premiums double or triple. This health care crisis will only get worse if Republicans vote against this extension, and Tennessee families will suffer.

From Day One, House Democrats have been unwavering in their commitment to ensure every Tennessean has access to affordable health care. Meanwhile, Donald Trump and House Republicans repeatedly refused to join Democrats in lowering health costs for working families. It’s time Representatives Harshbarger, Burchett, Fleischmann, DesJarlais, Ogles, Rose, Van Epps, and Kustoff stand with their constituents and extend these credits before health care becomes even more unaffordable for Tennessee families. 

Ahead of the House vote on extending the ACA tax credits, Tennessee Democratic Party Chair Rachel Campbell released the following statement: 

“Tennessee families are facing a health care crisis because Republicans continue to choose Donald Trump over their constituents. They let lifesaving ACA tax credits expire on December 31 and now, nearly 600,000 Tennesseans are seeing their health care premiums skyrocket by an average of 114%. Tennessee families are already underwater from rising costs, they cannot afford this Republican health care price hike. Tennessee Democrats will keep fighting to ensure every Tennessean receives affordable health care. Now it’s time for Republicans to grow a backbone and do the same.”
