13 states have enacted abortion bans since Roe v. Wade was struck down Reminder: Trump said ‘I was able to kill’ Roe v. Wade in a Truth Social post in 2023

NASHVILLE — Today, State Democratic Party Chairs Jane Kleeb of Nebraska, Nikki Fried of Florida, Lauren Necochea of Idaho, Karen Tallian of Indiana, Rita Hart of Iowa, Jeanna Repass of Kansas, Anderson Clayton of North Carolina, Erin Brewer of Oklahoma, Christale Spain of South Carolina, and Rachel Campbell of Tennessee released the following joint statement on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade:

“Fifty-three years ago today, the Supreme Court affirmed a simple but powerful principle in Roe v. Wade: that personal medical decisions belong to patients, not politicians.

Donald Trump destroyed this fundamental freedom and put women’s health care at risk across the country. By hand-picking three extreme Supreme Court justices, Trump paved the way for the 2022 decision that ripped away Roe and unleashed abortion bans across Republican-controlled states like ours.

The fallout was immediate and catastrophic: Providers have been jailed, women have been denied care, and many have died.

As we continue to witness the consequences of Trump’s extremism firsthand, we are not backing down. We are organizing against extreme laws and lawmakers, and standing with women to fight for fundamental freedoms across the country. We will keep fighting — in legislatures, at the ballot box, and in the courts — until reproductive freedom is once again protected in our states and across our country. To be clear: Trump may have ‘killed’ Roe as he put it, but Democrats will not rest until it’s restored.”
