NASHVILLE — Today, Challenger, Gray & Christmas released a new report on the number of layoffs last year, which found that there were a whopping 12,769 layoffs in Tennessee in 2025. These new layoff numbers come as Tennessee had the largest increases in the country for the number of unemployment claims filed last year on multiple occasions. 

Donald Trump and Tennessee Republicans have thrown Tennessee’s economy into crisis. Meanwhile, Trump and Tennessee Republicans are in denial about their faltering economic record. And just this week, Governor Bill Lee delivered his final State of the State address claiming Tennessee is leading the nation, when the reality is that families across the state continue to struggle with rising costs, low wages, and an affordability & healthcare crisis.

“One year into his second term and fifteen years of complete Republican control in Tennessee, Donald Trump and Tennessee Republicans have completely wrecked our economy. Because of their abysmal and toxic economic policies, 1,287 Tennesseans lost their jobs this month alone, while thousands more are struggling under skyrocketing costs under the affordability crisis they have created. 

Meanwhile, they refuse to change course and instead are lying in our faces about the realities working families are facing each and every day. They are doubling down on their divide-and-conquer politics, trying to paint a pretty picture while offering no solutions to make life more affordable for Tennesseans.
