Gas, groceries, basic necessity prices continue climbing, job gains wiped out for Tennessee families

NASHVILLE — Donald Trump campaigned on a promise to lower costs and usher in a “golden age” for working families. However, according to new data released, Tennessee saw zero percent job growth in 2025. In fact, Tennessee’s jobs economy has been effectively stagnant for two consecutive years, as businesses struggle under Trump and Tennessee Republicans’ disastrous economic policies. At the same time, Tennesseans are facing rising costs across the board, from the gas pump to the grocery store to everyday essentials, putting an increased strain on working families.

NEW DATA: The Alarming Rise in Costs for Tennessee Families at the Hands of Trump and Republicans:

  • Tennessee saw zero percent job growth in 2025
  • Gas prices alone have cost Tennesseans an additional $240,367,609 in just the last month alone as a result of Trump’s war on Iran
  • Tennessee families have paid $1,418 more for basic necessities
  • Families are paying $310 more for groceries, with prices continuing to climb

Statement from Rachel Campbell, chairwoman of the Tennessee Democratic Party:
“Every single Tennessean should be alarmed. Donald Trump and Republicans promised to lower costs. Instead, Tennesseans are seeing the exact opposite: Hiring is down and the cost of everything from gas and groceries to health care is skyrocketing.

“Tennessee families are paying the price for Trump and Tennessee Republicans’ failed economic agenda. Now, they’re doubling down on policies that try to pit neighbors against each other, drive prices higher, and leave communities behind. Tennessee Democrats are fighting to lower costs, create good-paying jobs, and make life more affordable for every family in our state.”
