NASHVILLE — On Monday, June 8, lawyers representing the Tennessee Democratic Party in its multi-plaintiff federal lawsuit challenging the Tennessee Republican supermajority’s racist and reckless congressional redistricting effort filed a Notice of Voluntary Dismissal, dismissing the federal suit without prejudice. The lawsuit challenged the legality of the state’s new congressional maps, which eliminated Tennessee’s only majority-Black voting district and already have created chaos for voters statewide ahead of the August primary elections. Other active legal challenges, including suits filed by the Tennessee State Conference of the NAACP and the ACLU, continue to make their way through the legal process.

“Our case focused on expedited relief for the 2026 cycle, and when that no longer became possible, we moved onto our next battlefield: the ballot box. While we fully support the cases led by the NAACP and ACLU and hope these districts are permanently enjoined or found illegal, Tennesseans need relief from this Republican supermajority’s chaos and broken promises. We won’t stop fighting for Tennesseans, and that means giving space to the organizations which specialize in protecting and enhancing civil rights while we double down on our responsibility to elect leaders who will put our needs — not the whims of radical MAGA zealots — first.”
