NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Democratic Party mourns the passing of Vonda McDaniel, President of the Central Labor Council of Nashville and Middle Tennessee. Her fearless leadership and decades of service strengthened Tennessee’s labor movement and inspired generations of organizers. She served as Vice President on the AFL-CIO

Executive Council from 2017 until June 2026. McDaniel was a graduate of Tennessee State University and a lifetime member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. McDaniel was a pillar in the community, an active member of First Baptist Church Capitol Hill, and part of the 2024 Democratic National Convention Delegation representing Tennessee. She was set to retire from her leadership at the CLC at the end of 2026 and embark on her new journey as Co-Executive Director of the Highlander Center.

“Vonda McDaniel was a leader, an advocate, but most of all our friend. We send our deepest condolences to her family and loved ones. She showed us how to be fierce while not losing empathy, determined in the face of adversity, and humble in the face of victory. Her work inspired a vision of a better future for a generation of leaders and organizers, and that mentorship will be deeply missed. Ms. Vonda showed us the way, and we honor her by doubling down to deliver for working people.”
