NASHVILLE — Yesterday, several provisions of Donald Trump and congressional Republicans’ “Big Bullsh*t Bill” took effect. Tennesseans are facing the consequences of a law that cuts healthcare and food assistance while delivering tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans. The legislation threatens healthcare coverage for 104,401 Tennesseans – the largest cut to healthcare in history, puts nine Tennessee rural hospitals at risk of closure, and will cut food assistance for an estimated 94,000 Tennesseans. These cuts come as Tennessee families are already paying an additional $3,900 in costs for goods and services, including record-high costs for groceries, housing, utilities, gas, and other basic necessities.

“Make no mistake, this is the largest wealth redistribution from low-income Tennesseans to the top 1% in history. Tennessee Republicans had a choice, and they chose billionaires over the people they were elected to represent. They continue to force working families to make impossible choices between putting food on the table and getting the healthcare they need. Tennesseans are left paying more and getting less. Tennessee Republicans didn’t hesitate to betray Tennesseans to line the pockets of their billionaire donors, and Tennessee voters won’t hesitate to hold them accountable at the ballot box on November 3.”
