NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Democratic Party today condemned the Bill Lee administration following yet another botched execution involving woman on death row, Christa Pike. The Tennessee Democratic Party joins calls for an immediate pause on all state executions and accountability.

Statement from Rachel Campbell, Chairwoman of the Tennessee Democratic Party:

“Bill Lee and Tennessee Republicans have spent years failing Tennesseans. Under more than 15 years of Republican control, Tennessee has fallen to dead last in the nation for quality of life, 44th in overall health system performance, 46th in the share of adults avoiding health care because of cost, the fourth-worst state to work in. And now here we are, after a second failed execution attempt. This is yet another inhumane, indefensible, and unacceptable example of their failures.

“Tennesseans are paying the price for Republican screw-ups at every turn. This pattern of failure is unacceptable, and Tennesseans deserve answers and accountability. Instead, we continue to see a Republican supermajority and administration ridden with rising cruelty, costs, and chaos. That’s why we are joining the calls for an immediate pause on all state executions until Lee takes accountability for these repeated, inhumane failures and an independent investigation provides Tennesseans with the answers they deserve.”
